June 6, 1931 – December 6, 2023

Wallace W. Holbrook of Zellwood, formerly of Lake Wales, passed away December 6 at the age of 92.

He was born June 6, 1931 at his parent’s home in Albany, Vermont. Wallace was the first child of Maurice and Laura Kenneson Holbrook. He attended several one room schools. He walked several miles to get to high school and later drove a 1931 Model A Roadster. While going to high school he helped his grandfather on his farm and worked with his uncle in his water thawing business. Wallace graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1950.

He joined the US Navy the day after graduation. He was assigned to Korea right after basic. While in the service he picked up the nickname “Pop” which has always stuck with him. Once when on leave he brought home a TV. It was the first in the town and neighbors gathered to watch programs.

Upon discharge from the Navy he worked in NH in construction, then he continued his career of vehicle maintenance in ME. Pop joined the telephone company and spent many years with them. He retired from the phone company.

He and his wife Gloria moved to Florida in November of 2004. She had failing health and passed in 2008.

At a dance event Pop met a very special lady, Sally Meyers. He and Sally loved square dancing. They also enjoyed camp outs, church gatherings, and traveling. Sadly, he lost his partner of many years two months ago, but she lives on through her wonderful family.

Pop loved family gatherings especially the food. His aunt even made him a 7 layer cake which he enjoyed. He loved maple sugaring, farming, tinkering, collecting, swimming, gardening, but above all spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his brother Wendell (Linda) Holbrook of VT, sisters Marion Searles of NY and Madeline (William) Grady of AZ, nieces, nephews and the entire Meyers family, especially Doug.

He was predeceased by his parents, Gloria Holbrook, son Martin Holbrook, daughter Tammy Holbrook, partner Sally Meyers, brothers-in-law Robert Searles and Henry Fletcher, and nephew Barry Fletcher.

Burial will be at the Conway Cemetery in NH at the convenience of the family.
