A Leesburg man was arrested for falsely claiming his girlfriend was suicidal to get a fast response from law enforcement during a verbal argument.Â
Police received a call from 20-year-old Joshua Allen Henshaw, located at 24734 Palmetto Drive, at 3:34 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Â
Henshaw told law enforcement that his girlfriend needed to be Baker Acted because she had a knife put up to her stomach. He advised that they had a newborn, and the situation was bad. He then stated he was able to take the knife away from her, the report said. Â
Due to the nature of the call, about six deputies responded to the residence as an emergency with lights and sirens. However, upon making contact with the girlfriend, she was in good health, calm and holding her about 2-month-old child in her arms, the report said.Â
Henshaw proceeded to explain that there was no emergency. He created the false allegations of suicidal threats, and a knife was never presented. He knew he should not have called the police. He did so just to get a quick response from deputies as he and his girlfriend had been in an argument, and she would not leave him alone. He stated he just wanted her to leave the residence, the report said.Â
Henshaw acknowledged that the called 911 for the purpose of making a false complaint and reporting false information that resulted in the emergency response of deputies, the report said.Â
As a result, he was arrested on charge of misuse of 911. He was transported to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
