A Leesburg woman was arrested for battery after allegedly punching a roommate in the spine during a verbal argument.
Police responded to a battery at an undisclosed Leesburg residence around 4:39 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. The male victim advised that he was struck by a female he lived with, later identified as 65-year-old Marianne Jannie Smith.
Upon arrival, the officer met with the victim and two witnesses. The victim stated that he was in a verbal dispute with Smith about him living within the home. She was irritated due to him refusing to leave the property and struck him with a closed fist in the middle of his spine, the report said.
The victim further advised that the two witnesses who also lived at the residence were present and saw Smith striking him. The witnesses’ statements both coincided with the victim’s statement, confirming that Smith did hit him. The officer did not observe any injuries on the victim, the report said.
The victim explained that there was no domestic relationship between him and Smith. There were no familial ties, and she was only a roommate, the report said.
The officer then spoke to Smith. When asked what happened, she stated that the victim called her the “n-word,” so she punched him in the back on the shoulder, the report said.
Smith was subsequently arrested on charge of battery (simple touch or strike). She was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
