Police responded to a vehicle crash in the parking lot at about 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The officer arrived and spoke to several people in the area who claimed the driver of a silver GMC utility vehicle, identified as 73-year-old Randy Maurice Mitchem, was intoxicated, the report said.

Mitchem was in the driver’s seat with the vehicle running when the officer talked to him, the report said. He had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and admitted to having several “whiskey and Diet Cokes.”

As a result, Mitchem was asked to participate in field sobriety exercises. His performance during the exercises led the officer to conclude he was driving under the influence. This was later confirmed by breath tests resulting in 0.149g/210L and 0.148g/210L of breath, the report said.

The Arkansas native was arrested on charge of DUI (accident/property damage). He was transported to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
