A Leesburg man whose unusual driving tipped off law enforcement blew three times the legal blood alcohol limit after he was arrested for a DUI.

Police observed 23-year-old Derli David Roblero-Hernandez operating a black Ford utility vehicle near North 14th and Shelfer streets at about 2:06 a.m. on Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

Roblero-Hernandez was braking abnormally and bouncing between the left and right lanes of traffic, creating suspicion of his potential impairment. He failed to maintain a lane by swerving in and out.

After seeing these traffic violations, the officer initiated a traffic stop at the BP gas station located at 1300 U.S. Hwy. 27.

According to the report, it was apparent that Roblero-Hernandez did not speak English, so another officer was called in to translate to avoid confusion. The report notes that Roberlo-Hernandez’s eyes were watery and glassy, and his breath emitted an odor of alcohol.

When asked for identification, Roblero-Hernandez provided the officer with a passport out of Mexico, and a computer check revealed he did not have a valid license, according to the report.

The second officer arrived a short time thereafter and translated the interaction, explaining the reason for the traffic stop. Roblero-Hernandez agreed to participate in a series of field sobriety exercises, and his performance led officers to conclude he was impaired, the report said.

Roblero-Hernandez admitted to drinking two beers between 6 and 7 p.m. Breath tests taken later returned readings of .214, .243 and .204, according to the report.

Roblero-Hernandez is being charged with DUI and driving without a license. He also received a citation for failure to drive in a single lane. He was taken to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $3,000 bond.
