A Leesburg man with numerous prior arrests for driving without a valid license was caught doing it again after he was involved in an accident in a gas station parking lot.

Jody Hamilton, 58, was charged with driving while license suspended (3rd or subsequent offense) after the fender bender, which happened the morning of Aug. 13 at the Circle K, located at 900 S. 14th St.

Hamilton told Leesburg police officers he did not have a license because it was taken away by another officer a few weeks earlier. He said he still had his Tennessee license, according to the LPD arrest report.

A computer search of Hamilton’s driving record confirmed his license wasn’t valid. It also revealed five suspensions involving failure to pay traffic fines and financial responsibilities from May through August of this year. Hamilton had eight additional convictions for driving suspensions, cancellations or revocations dating back to 1993, the report said.

Hamilton was also issued citations for having an expired tag more than six months and not having proof of insurance. The Ohio native was taken to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $8,000. Hamilton will appear in Lake County Court on Sept. 5.
