Major General Angelo John Perciballi, of Altoona, FL, died May 7, 2023. He was born February 14, 1935 in Newton, MA, the eldest child of the late Angelo and Anna Perciballi of Watertown, MA.
Angelo was a passionate pilot and engineer who loved traveling and lived many places around the United States before settling in Altoona, FL for his final years. Blessed with a sharp mind and sharper wit, he was beloved by his family and those who knew him.
While attending Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he played baseball and subsequently he received his Bachelor’s and later his Master’s degrees in Aeronautical Engineering.
Angelo was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force Reserve in 1956, eventually serving for 35 years. He amassed over 6,500 flight hours as a transport airplane pilot as well as worked as an aeronautical engineer in various posts, retiring in 1993 as a Major General, the highest rank attainable by a Reservist.
Over his civilian career, he worked for Raytheon and Martin Marietta as an Aeronautical Engineer managing missile-related programs. He also worked for Steven Myers & Associates writing proposals to the government for large aerospace companies.
Even in retirement, Angelo was active in his community. He helped develop electric charging stations, supported Angel Flights and CAP, participated in Rotary International, serving as President of the Lake County Golden Triangle Rotary Club (2014-2015), and was a member of many military and professional groups.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Joanie; sister Sandra and husband Bob Janvrin; ex-wife Deborah and their children; John and wife Brenda, Marianne and husband Mark Hirsch, William and wife Shannon, Michael and wife Susan; stepchildren Seth Burley and wife Sharon, and Todd Burley; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at Waterman Hospital and Cornerstone Hospice for their compassionate care. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 27 at 2:00 PM in the auditorium at Lakeview Terrace. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Cornerstone Hospice of Tavares.
