A Wildwood man was arrested on drug charges after being pulled over in Mount Dora for having an expired registration.

Brandon James Miller, 24, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license suspended. He was driving a silver 2008 Hyundai that a Mount Dora Police officer spotted with an expired license tag near a 7-Eleven on U.S. Highway 441 at around 11:17 p.m. Wednesday, according to the police arrest report.

Miller immediately told the officer he didn’t have a valid driver’s license. As they continued to speak, the officer could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Miller advised he had a “roach” in the driver door side pocket, the report said.

The vehicle was then searched, leading the officer to find a small clear plastic bag stuffed in the driver’s seat, the report said. The bag contained a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana. A marijuana pipe was also recovered on the driver side door pocket. Both items tested positive for THC.

A background check confirmed Miller’s license was suspended as of November 2020, the report said. He also had two previous guilty convictions for driving while his license was suspended in October 2018 and in January of this year.

Miller was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail, where he was released after posting $4,000 bond.
