Driver killed in three-vehicle accident in Lake County

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a driver in Lake County.

The accident occurred at 11:20 a.m. Wednesday on State Road 33 north of Double H Lane in Groveland. The crash created a roadblock for both the northbound and southbound lanes of State Road 33.

The man had been driving a 2014 Mazda 3 when he entered the southbound lane of State Road 33 and traveled into the direct path of a 2014 Volvo semi-truck driven by a 32-year-old man from Duluth, Ga., according to FHP. The semi went onto to strike a 2018 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 34-year-old woman from Clermont.

The truck driver has been hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

The Clermont woman was not seriously injured.

FHP was attempting to reach the next of kin for the driver who was killed. Traffic Homicide Investigators have been called in to investigate the crash.
