Eustis man airlifted from crash on State Road 44 that claimed life of 22-year-old man

A Eustis man was airlifted from the scene of a crash on State Road 44 in Lake County that claimed the life of a 22-year-old man.

The 22-year-old man from Sanford was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday westbound on State Road 44 west of Donna Vista Place when he crossed the center line and sideswiped a sedan driven by a 30-year-old Sorrento woman, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The vehicle driven by the Sanford man entered the eastbound lane of travel and collided with a 2006 Chevy Silverado driven by the 56-year-old Eustis man.

The Sanford man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Eustis man was airlifted to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford. He suffered serious injuries, according to the FHP report.

The Sorrento woman and a 32-year-old male passenger, also from Sorrento, escaped injury.

The crash remains under investigation.
