A man’s bizarre behavior alarmed several customers and employees at the Publix grocery store at Palm Plaza in Leesburg.

Leesburg police officers were dispatched Saturday night to the store. Officers spoke with the manager who said that a man in Aisle 12 had been throwing items, talking to himself and scaring other customers.

When the investigating officer confronted the man, he recognized him as 24-year-old Cory Blaine, according to the arrest report. The officer noted that Blaine was “very fidgety and appeared under the influence of something.” When the officer asked Blaine to step out of the store, Blaine complied with the request.

The officer called into dispatch and provided Blaine’s name for a records check. Dispatch informed the officer that Blaine had been issued a trespass notice from the store in August. Blaine was placed under arrest for trespass. He was in possession of a small amount of methamphetamine in a cigarette package. After processing at the Leesburg Police Station, Blaine was charged with possession of a controlled substance and trespass after notice. Blaine was taken to the Lake County Jail where he was being held without bond.

In 2020, Blaine had been arrested on the Morse Boulevard Bridge in The Villages.
