A Fruitland Park woman was arrested Saturday morning after fleeing the scene of an accident at the intersection of Citrus Blvd and Tally Road in Leesburg.

Officers responded to the accident location where they met with the driver of a car which had been rear ended while stopped for a red light in front of the Rural King store, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The driver said that a red Buick had crashed into his vehicle and then pulled into the ABC liquor store parking lot. When he followed the vehicle into the ABC lot, he saw a young white female jump out of the Buick and plead with him not to call the police because she did not have a driver’s license. When she realized he was calling law enforcement she got behind the wheel and drove off. The man provided police a photo he had taken of the Buick which showed the license plate. He described the driver as a short young woman with dark hair and clothing. He also said the Buick was leaking radiator fluid and shouldn’t get far.

An officer issued an alert to surrounding area departments and was contacted by officers of the Fruitland Park Police Department who found the Buick at the Spring Lake Cove Apartments. The Fruitland Park officers said that the driver was possibly 22-year-old Dreama Shifflett who lived with the family which owned the Buick. Shifflett’s brother told the officer that his sister was at an address in Leesburg. When officers met with her at the Leesburg address she admitted that she had left the scene of the accident she had caused.

Shifflett was booked at the Lake County Jail on charges of leaving the scene of a property damage accident, and driving while being suspended as a habitual offender. Bond was set at $10,500 which was posted later that day.
