A suspected thief was arrested after allegedly stealing an Amazon package from a business in Leesburg.

A Leesburg police officer was dispatched Monday to MMD Computers, 595 S. 14th St., to investigate the theft. The officer met with a company employee who explained that an Amazon package was delivered on Dec. 23 while the business was closed. The package was placed under the overhang of the building near the front door.

At 2 a.m. Christmas Eve, a man was caught on surveillance video stealing the package. The thief looked directly into the camera before walking off with the package.

An officer immediately recognized the thief as 47-year-old Marc Anthony Perreault, who has a lengthy criminal history. The stolen package contained two computer cards valued at a total of $219.98, according to the arrest report.

Perreault was arrested on Tuesday morning on charges of grand theft and burglary. He was booked at the Lake County Jail on $7,000 bond.

Perreault was arrested in April on a drug possession charge. He was also arrested in 2019 after a violent carjacking in the parking lot of Ramshackle Cafe.
