Teen arrested after shooting victim seeks help at UF Health-Leesburg Hospital

A 14-year-old Leesburg boy was arrested after allegedly shooting a woman who was involved in an argument with his mother.

A woman drove three of her friends to 1631 Sterns Drive on Tuesday looking for one of the women’s boyfriend. When they arrived at the Sterns residence a woman came out and started to argue with the four women and told them to leave, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The 14-year-old boy armed himself with a pistol and fired one shot at the car which struck the driver in the left leg, according to the police report.

The driver was unable to operate the car as a result of the wound, so one of the other women rushed her to UF Health-Leesburg Hospital where Leesburg officers interviewed them. All four women told the same story regarding the shooting and claimed they knew the shooter.

The boy was located at the Sterns Drive residence and taken into custody. While speaking with the police at the Leesburg Police Station he claimed that his home had been “shot up” and that he thought one of the women was involved in the shooting. He denied shooting the victim. The officers found one shell casing in a location which supported the victim’s statements. The young man was charged with attempted murder, three counts of aggravated assault with intent to commit felony, shooting a weapon into an occupied conveyance and possession of a weapon by a minor. The boy was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice for processing.
