Leesburg DUI suspect nabbed with semi-automatic pistol

A Leesburg drunk driving suspect was arrested early Sunday with a semi-automatic weapon in his vehicle.

Brian Biesel Jr., 29, was driving a black Toyota in the vicinity of County Road 44 and County Road 452 when he was having difficulty maintaining a proper lane, according to an arrest report from the Eustis Police Department.

During a traffic stop, Biesel was asked if he had any weapons. He said he did not. However, they spotted a 9mm semi-automatic Smith & Wesson pistol which had a full magazine inserted with one round in the chamber. The weapon did not have the safety engaged. Biesel admitted he did not have a concealed carry permit.

While questioning Beisel, the officers could smell a strong oder of alcohol coming from him. He agreed to participate in standardized field sobriety exercises which indicated he was impaired. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Lake County Jail where he agreed to take a breathalyzer test. The two samples showed blood alcohol levels of .157 and .151. He was booked at the jail on charges of of driving under the influence and open carry of a firearm. He was released after posting $1,500 bond.
