Mercer responded to a call of a suicidal female who was attempting to drown herself in a lake.  Prior to his arrival, several family members attempted to assist her but were unsuccessful due to her combative nature.  Mercer immediately removed his duty gear and swam to the female.  Despite her continuous resistance, he were able to safely return her to shore.  If not for Deputy Sheriff Mercer’s efforts, the female would have likely drowned.

“Deputy Sheriff Joshua Mercer, we are proud of your dedication and service to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Lake County,” Grinnell said.
