City of Leesburg honored for budgeting excellence for 23rd consecutive year

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has presented its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award to the City of Leesburg for the 2020-21 Annual Budget. This is the 23rd consecutive year the city has earned the award.  This significant achievement marks the dedication of the city commission and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

To receive the award, the city must satisfy nationally recognized standards for effective budget presentation. Leesburg was evaluated on how well its budget serves as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide and communications device. To qualify, the budget document must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, while also meeting 14 mandatory criteria within these categories.

“Planning and managing a fiscally sound budget is a hallmark of the city’s continued success,” said City Manager Al Minner. “We are honored to have received this award for over two decades and are extremely proud of the team that develops and prepares the budget each year.”

The GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality.
