Two Summerfield drivers involved in pedestrian fatality in Leesburg

Two Summerfield drivers were involved in a pedestrian fatality late Saturday night in Leesburg.

The Leesburg Police Department responded at 11:56 p.m. to the area of U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and Indian Trail where the accident occurred.

The initial investigation revealed a green 2002 Jeep Liberty driven by 29-year-old John Berrey of Summerfield struck the pedestrian, who was then struck a second time by a red 2007 Chevrolet Impala passenger vehicle driven by 19-year-old Skylar Smith of Summerfield.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pedestrian has been identified, however the release of identity is pending the next of kin notification.

The crash remains under investigation by the Leesburg Police Department/Traffic Unit. Anyone with further information is encouraged to contact police at (352) 728-9860.
