Traffic shut down for four hours on U.S. Hwy. 27 in Leesburg after pedestrian killed

A Eustis woman was struck and killed on U.S. Hwy. 27 in Leesburg early Thursday morning.

Judy Heubusch, 65, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was believed to have been hit by a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck driven by 37-year-old Tory Veraghen, a Leesburg Police report states. Veraghen, of Leesburg, was traveling south on U.S. Hwy. 27 near Northshore Drive at about 12:43 a.m. when the crash occurred. The southbound lanes of the highway were closed for about four hours.

The incident is still under investigation by the Leesburg Police Department’s traffic unit. Anyone with information is asked to call (352) 728-9860.
