A Lake County resident has been identified as the winner of a $1 million scratch-off ticket purchased at a local gas station. following the expiration of a 90-day public records exemption period.
Keunta Kenshawn Sutton of Groveland was recently identified by the Florida Lottery as the winner of the $1,000,000 prize from the $25,000,000 Gold Rush Multiplier scratch-off game. Sutton officially claimed the prize earlier this year on February 18.
The winning ticket was purchased at the RaceTrac located at 622 E Broad Street in Groveland. According to state lottery records, Sutton chose to receive the winnings as a one-time, lump-sum cash payment, which resulted in a total payout of $638,100.
Under Florida law, the names of individuals who win prizes of $250,000 or more through the Florida Lottery are automatically exempt from public record for 90 days from the date the prize is claimed. Once that exemption period expires, the winner’s name and the specific location where the winning ticket was purchased become part of the public record.
Sutton’s million-dollar payout is part of a broader string of significant lottery prizes claimed by local residents over the past several months, including many purchased at gas stations.
In March, a local resident claimed a $10 million prize from a scratch-off purchased at a Circle K in Leesburg.
In February, a Groveland woman won a $1 million prize from a scratch-off ticket that she purchased at a RaceTrac in Minneola.
That same month, a Clermont resident was identified as the winner of a $500,000 prize from a scratch-off ticket that he purchased at a local Publix in November. He was also identified following the expiration of his 90-day exemption.
Other recent local winners include a Tavares woman who claimed a $100,000 prize from a ticket purchased at a Winn-Dixie last November, and another Lake County woman who successfully claimed two separate prizes from tickets she bought on the exact same day at different local gas stations in October.
