A new ALDI grocery store will open Wednesday at Lake Harris Square in Leesburg.

The store is located in the former space where the Winn-Dixie store was located. Workers have been remodeling the building to house the new, more compact store which will occupy about half the space of the old Winn-Dixie store.

The Lake Harris Square store will be the second Winn-Dixie to reopen as an ALDI in the area as the Winn-Dixie located at Lake Sumter Landing in the Villages was remodeled and reopened as an ALDI store on July 10.

“We’re thrilled to open our doors and offer your community a new grocery store focused on quality and savings,” the company said in its announcement of the store opening. “Shoppers will discover everyday low prices on groceries and household essentials, including fresh produce, organic foods, fresh meat and seafood, and ALDI-exclusive brands that match the quality of national name brands at a fraction of the price. We look forward to becoming your trusted local grocery store and helping shoppers get quality groceries at low ALDI prices every day!”

ALDI is a German company which has emphasized low cost store brand products. The company was founded in 1946 when two brothers took over their mother’s store. There are more than 2,560 stores in the United Sates with 264 stores in Florida.
