The Florida Department of Transportation has released lane closure information for two resurfacing projects on U.S. 441 in Tavares and Leesburg that will continue through Saturday, May 9.
The purpose of both projects is to rehabilitate the asphalt to maintain a safe and reliable roadway surface. This project will also upgrade pedestrian curb ramps, as needed, to comply with current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
The Leesburg project involves implementing operational improvements on U.S. 441 (State Road (S.R.) 44/S.R. 500/East Main Street/North Boulevard) from Mills Street to College Drive in Leesburg. The plans include repaving U.S. 441 (North Boulevard) from Perkins Street to Mills Street in Leesburg.
The Tavares project includes plans to resurface U.S. 441 (West Burleigh Boulevard/ State Road (S.R.) 500/S.R. 19) from Lakeshore Boulevard to Lake Eustis Drive in Tavares.
For both projects, motorists should anticipate areas of uneven pavement within the project limits, a common condition during construction when the contractor applies multiple asphalt layers in phases. These roadway conditions are temporary and will improve gradually as the project progresses. Lane closures are restricted to overnight hours, from 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. on open roadways and from 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. within 600 feet of an intersection.
While workers are on site, motorists are strongly encouraged to exercise caution and reduce speed to ensure the safety of everyone on the roadway. The project timeline is subject to change and may be adjusted due to inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
