A Eustis woman was arrested on drug charges when an officer noticed the smell of marijuana in her car after stopping for a broken headlight.

A deputy conducted a stop on a white 2019 Hyundai Sonata for a headlight violation at State Road 44 and County Road 475 around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
While actively patrolling the area, the deputy had seen the vehicle driving eastbound with only one working headlight. He pulled behind the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The vehicle stopped on State Road 44 just west of County Road 475, the report said.
Upon approaching Ramirez, the deputy noticed she was the only one in the vehicle. She was also the registered owner of the vehicle. The deputy identified himself and advised of the probable cause for the traffic stop, the report said.
The deputy detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle as he spoke to Ramirez on the driver’s side. He asked her if she had a medical marijuana card, and she admitted she did not. He then asked if there was CBD or hemp products within the vehicle. She also said no to this, the report said.
The deputy next asked her to get out of the vehicle for a search of the vehicle. During this, he found a prescription marijuana container in the center console with a partially burned marijuana cigarette inside it. The container did not have her name on it, the report said.
A THC vape pen was also discovered in the center console. It contained a cartridge with a thick goldish brown oil suspected of being THC. Both substances tested positive for marijuana or THC, the report said.
Ramirez was subsequently arrested on charges of possess controlled substance without subscription, possess marijuana (less than 20 grams) and possess paraphernalia. The New York native was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $3,500 bond.
