Leesburg woman allegedly attacks boyfriend over cheating allegations

A Leesburg woman was arrested for battery after allegedly attacking her boyfriend when a woman from his work accused him of cheating.

A deputy responded to a domestic altercation, later found to involve 53-year-old Elena Louise Mertz, at an undisclosed Leesburg residence around 9:48 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.  

Upon arrival, the deputy met with the victim who he found walking down the street from the residence. He told the deputy that Mertz, his girlfriend of two months got a phone call from a female advising that he was cheating. At that moment, his girlfriend got upset and began to question him about it, the report said. 

Mertz began to get violent and hit him on the head numerous times with an open hand. She also tried to take his phone, continuing to hit him in the arms and ribs. Indeed, the victim lifted his shirt and showed the deputy bruising and a laceration he received from Mertz, the report said. 

The deputy next made contact with Mertz. She advised that she received a call from a female at her boyfriend’s job stating that he was fired and that he had been cheating on her. She confronted the victim and told him repeatedly to let her see his phone, the report said. 

The victim would not give the phone to Mertz, so she then tried to take it from him. While doing so, the victim ended up on top of her while on the bed, although Mertz could not give details on how they got to the position. She then pushed the victim as they continued to struggle for possession of the phone. She did not remember who hit first, but she admitted to hitting the victim, the report said. 

The Illinois native was ultimately arrested on charge of simple battery domestic. She was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
