A deputy responded to an undisclosed Yalaha address regarding a verbal argument between family members of the residence around 10:25 p.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, the deputy spoke with the complainant who advised that his son, 31-year-old Matthew Thurston Maxwell, was being aggressive and trying to attack family members. He stated that Maxwell tried to fight his brother after being in a brief argument, the report said.

The brother then walked out, and Maxwell’s father stated he would have more information. Indeed, he told deputies that Maxwell was speaking with his mother when she mentioned the name of a female. At this point, he became irate for no reason and was being disrespectful, the report said.

The brother wanted to stop the disrespect, so he told Maxwell to stop. This was when Maxwell picked up a vase that was on the piano upstairs and held it like he was going to throw it, threatening to kill his brother and causing him to fear for his life, the report said.

This was when their father tried to restrain Maxwell to prevent him from harming his brother. Maxwell put the vase down and tried to go downstairs to attack his brother, to which his father continued restraining him, the report said.

The deputy then went upstairs to where Maxwell was, and he stated more than one time that he did not wish to speak with law enforcement. He wanted to just lay in his bed, the report said.

The deputy returned to the father and asked him to show where the vase was. He replied that he had returned it to the piano in the original spot where Maxwell grabbed it from. It was a medium sized white vase with flowers inside it, the report said.

Maxwell was subsequently taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (domestic). He was taken to Lake County Jail with bond set at $25,000.
