A deputy on patrol observed the driver of a white Chevy SUV, later identified as 19-year-old Carter Allen Soltysiak, traveling southbound on U.S. Hwy. 441 near North Lake Street around 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. He was found to be going 79 mph in a 45-mph zone.

The deputy thus conducted a traffic stop on the SUV at U.S. Hwy. 441 and North Lake Avenue. Once at the passenger front door of the vehicle, he immediately smelled the distinct odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. He asked Soltysiak when was the last time he smoked inside of the vehicle, and he advised a few days ago, the report said.

Soltysiak was then asked to step out of the vehicle so the deputy could conduct a search. He responded by reaching behind the driver’s seat and pulling out a large clear plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance. This tested positive for marijuana and weighed about 152 grams, the report said.

As a result, Soltysiak was arrested on charge of possession of cannabis (more than 20 grams). He was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $2,500 bond.
