A deputy responded to a battery in progress at 33324 Mitchell Drive in Leesburg at 12:08 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, he met 19-year-old William Hobson and asked if he was involved. Hobson stated he did not know what was happening but heard the disturbance.

The deputy next spoke with the victim who advised she got into an altercation with a female. While engaged with her, Hobson approached and punched her in the head several times. She gave a description of Hobson and advised that he was in the camper at the rear of the residence where the deputy initially made contact, the report said.

Due to this, the deputy returned to the camper and talked to a female tenant who advised she did not know the whereabouts of Hobson. After asking if she was positive, she stated that he may be in the camper. The deputy then made contact with Hobson in the doorway of the camper, the report said.

Hobson was in a crouching position and stated that he did not do anything. The deputy told him he was being detained, as which time he stated, “ok.” He went to place Hobson in hand restraints, but he pulled away and fled on foot. He was later found hiding in a vehicle before being taken into custody, the report said.

At the time, Hobson provided a false name, which was later believed to be his brother. His fingerprints revealed his true identity during processing. It was also learned that he was a violent offender with an active Lake County warrant for violating his probation on charges of robbery using a weapon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and carjacking, the report said.

The North Carolina native was charged with simple battery, resisting an officer without violence and giving false information to law enforcement. He was transported to Lake County Jail with bond set at $3,000.
