Police responded to an undisclosed Lake County area regarding a battery around 3:29 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Officers were initially advised that a female had struck the complainant and another male but were not given any other information.

Upon arriving in the area, one of the officers spoke to a woman, later identified as 33-year-old Nakina Jane Baird. She was seen walking on the sidewalk very close to the call for service, so the officer explained why he stopped her. Baird stated that she had not been involved in any incident and was walking to a friend’s house. She also gave her name and date of birth, the report said.

Another officer then met with the complainant, or the male victim, at the address given to law enforcement. The victim stated that Baird, his sister, was the one who battered him. At that point, another officer arrived in the area and stayed with Baird near 3rd Street and West Oak Terrace Drive, the report said.

The victim further explained that he was inside of his shared residence with Baird, her husband and their mother when he heard Baird and her husband arguing in their bedroom. He believed they were in a physical altercation but did not witness it. He saw the husband leave the residence, and he approached his mother to ask what was going on, the report said.

As the victim did this, Baird was irate and attacked him. She struck him with an open hand on his forearm and the top of his head. He could not advise which forearm was struck as he put them up quickly to cover himself from being struck. Baird then left the residence on foot, the report said.

Officers next spoke to the mother of Baird and the victim. She advised that the victim told her that Baird and her husband had possibly been in an altercation. As she was in the downstairs area of the residence, she saw Baird swing her arms and hands toward the victim. He put his hands up to protect himself, but she saw Baird make physical contact with him anyway, the report said.

Baird was subsequently arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic). The Michigan native was transported to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $750 bond.
