FHP investigating fatal crash involving two vehicles in Lake County

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash involving two vehicles in Lake County.

The crash occurred at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday on Schofield Road west of Five Mile Road south of Clermont.

A 52-year-old Clermont man who had been driving a 2018 Nissan Maxima was pronounced dead at the scene. A 39-year-old male from Orlando driving a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee was seriously injured and airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

The Clermont man had been eastbound on Schofield Road and for unknown reasons crossed the center line and traveled into the westbound lane of traffic and entered into the direct path of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The crash prompted a roadblock on Schofield Road. It was cleared at 11:30 a.m.

This accident remains under investigation.
