Police responded to Chevron gas station, located at 1417 S. 14th Street, regarding a suspicious person, later identified as 27-year-old Malcolm Lamont Taylor, around 1:17 a.m. on Jan. 25, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

An anonymous caller advised that a man matching Taylor’s description was possibly trying to break into the coin machine attached to the vacuum at the business. Officers were advised he was possibly with a woman, the report said.

Upon arrival in the area, contact was made with Taylor in front of Spin City Laundry, located at 1321 S. 14th Street. Both he and the unidentified woman he was with advised they only walked past the gas station and did not try to break into the coin machine. The coin machine was not observed to have been broken into, the report said.

A background check revealed Taylor had an outstanding writ of bodily attachment for failure to pay child support. As officers were advised of this, Taylor was told he was going to be detained and placed under arrest for the writ, the report said.

Taylor immediately began running eastbound from the area, crossing over U.S. Hwy. 27. An officer gave repeated commands to stop running and comply, but he refused and continued running on Gunston Street before making a lefthand turn onto Mariva Avenue. He went behind residences in the area of 1304 Mariva Avenue where officers lost eyesight of him, the report said.

Officers continued to be on the lookout for Taylor but were not able to find him that day.

He was arrested this past Friday afternoon at 1415 S. 14th Street, where he was charged with resisting (obstructing without violence). He was transported to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $6,496.
