A deputy stopped the driver of a black 2019 Nissan Sentra, later identified as 38-year-old Devin Rejone Swint, at the intersection of State Road 471 and County Road 724 around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The traffic stop was initiated due to the registered owner coming back with a suspended driver’s license when checked. The deputy first got a good look at Swint at the intersection of State Road 471 and County Road 48. Due to the registered owner matching the description of the driver, an investigative traffic stop was conducted, the report said.

The deputy contacted Swint and confirmed it was him, and another check revealed he did not have a valid driver’s license. It was suspended indefinitely as of December 2023. He also had two active suspensions and one prior guilty suspension for undisclosed charges, the report said.

A vehicle inventory was taken prior to the vehicle being towed, during which a small glass container with a white lid containing a yellow waxy substance was found in the center console. Furthermore, a plastic wrapper wrapped up tightly about one by one inch was in the change holder near the shifter. Inside was a reddish-brown waxy substance. The yellow substance tested positive for THC, and the reddish-brown substance tested positive for methamphetamine, the report said.

Swint was arrested on charges of possession of THC wax, possession of methamphetamine and driving while license suspended or revoked. He was transported to the Sumter Count Detention Center with bond set at $12,000.
