Police responded to a report of two subjects, later identified as 55-year-old Lisa Kay Burfield and 44-year-old Stacey Ann Fike, slumped over in a red Ford SUV in the Walmart parking lot, located at 2501 Citrus Boulevard, around 4:12 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers with the Leesburg Police Department were already on scene. One of them advised that once they got there, both Fike, the driver, and Burfield, the passenger, were unresponsive with slow, labored breathing. The vehicle was also running with the keys in the ignition, the report said.

Officers removed the keys from the ignition and tried to wake up the duo. After multiple attempts, they became responsive, but Burfield immediately passed out again. Both occupants appeared lethargic and were showing signs of recent narcotics use. One of the officers stated that the pair advised they were at Walmart to pay a light bill but did not know what time it was or how long ago they arrived, the report said.

Lake County Fire Rescue and EMS responded to the scene, but both women refused medical treatment, the report said.

Fike was then asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises to determine if she was under the influence of narcotics, to which she consented. She was initially upset and seemed confused before eventually complying. She also advised that she did not consume any narcotics and was just sleeping. Still, her movements were extremely slow and lethargic with delayed responses, the report said.

Based on the officer’s observations during the exercises, he believed Fike to be under the influence of narcotics while being in control of a running vehicle. Therefore, she was placed under arrest for DUI, the report said.

Fike was asked if she had anything, such as guns, drugs, needles, or pipes, on her person, to which she advised she did not. However, a search revealed two unopened fentanyl patches in her left pant pocket. She initially hesitated but then advised the patches belonged to her aunt, Burfield. She stated she did not use them but was merely “holding them” for her, the report said.

Burfield told the officer she was currently wearing a fentanyl patch on her arm, which he immediately removed. When asked if she had a prescription, she initially replied that she did not then changed her answer to say they were old. She stated they were from “a long time ago” and did not currently have a prescription, the report said.

Burfield later advised she did not know when she was prescribed the patches, then changed her answer to say right after an incident four years ago. She did not have an answer to who prescribed the medications when she did have a prescription, the report said.

The fentanyl patches were later tested and confirmed to be positive for the narcotic. Fike also provided two breath samples that both came in at 0.00g/210L of breath. Based on the evaluation of a drug recognition expert, she believed Fike to be impaired by methamphetamine and marijuana.

Burfield was charged with possession of fentanyl and transported to the Lake County Jail. The Michigan native was released after posting $2,000 bond.

Fike was charged with possession of fentanyl and DUI before being taken to jail. She was released after posting $3,000 bond.
