Woman sues for alleged slip-and-fall in aisle of Publix in Leesburg

A woman has filed a lawsuit claiming she sustained “permanent injury” after she fell on a “slippery substance” while walking down an aisle of a Publix in Leesburg.

Attorneys from Orlando-based Morgan & Morgan filed the lawsuit on behalf of Julie Gilbert in the fifth judicial circuit court for Lake County on November 21, 2023.

According to the complaint, Gilbert visited the Publix located at 10601 U.S. Hwy 441 in the Shoppes of Lake Village on August 6, 2023.

During her visit, Gilbert claims she “suddenly and without warning slipped and fell due to a slippery substance on the floor at the premises,” according to the lawsuit.

“As a result of the fall, [Ms. Gilbert] sustained permanent and severe bodily injury,” reads the complaint.

Gilbert’s attorneys say their client’s injuries were “due solely and wholly as a result of the negligent manner that [Publix], its agents, servants, and/or employees owned, operated, maintained, managed, and controlled the aforesaid Premises.”

Gilbert is seeking over $50,000 in damages, “exclusive of costs, interest, and attorneys’ fees.”

According to Lake County court records, Circuit Judge Dan R. Mosley issued a Differentiated Civil Case Management Order For Jury Trial on Dec. 8. No additional filings have been made in the case since that time.
