Duane Gordon Hines, age 74, of Mount Dora, Florida sadly left us on December 27, 2023, following an extended hospital stay to transition to his heavenly home.

Duane was born in Starke County, Ohio (North Canton) on October 4, 1949 to John H. and Dorothy M. (Wymer) Hines. He moved to Mount Dora, Florida in 1957 and graduated from Tavares High School (Tavares, Florida) in 1967. He studied music at Trevecca Nazarene College (Nashville, Tennessee; 1968-1969) before joining the United States Navy in February 1970. He served his country as a Cryptographic Machine operator serving both stateside and abroad until 1974.

Duane was a longtime member of the Church of the Nazarene having been a member of the Leesburg First Church of the Nazarene since 1966. He and his wife, Doris, were married on June 19, 1971 at Immanuel Church of the Nazarene (Syracuse, New York). They were married over fifty-one years. Duane was a cabinetmaker by trade and very involved in his church. He served as a board member, Sunday School Superintendent, money counter, song leader, and sound board operator. He was a longtime member of the Golden Triangle Kiwanis Club. He also enjoyed boating, especially through the Dora Canal, and was involved in the Coast Guard Auxillary Floatilla 43 serving as Floatilla Commander and Vice-Commander.

Duane is survived by his sons, Danny (Amber) Hines of Winchester, Indiana; Dennis (partner Vicki Sanchez) Hines of Fruitland Park, Florida; sisters Diann (Larry) Woodhouse of Peru, Indiana and Melanie (Gary) Hicks of Leesburg, Florida; grandchildren Caleb (Kevalina), Tyler, Levi, Zachary, Madelyn, Dylan, and Julia Hines, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris L. Hines and parents John H. and Dorothy M. Hines.

A celebration of life will be held at 10 AM on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the Leesburg First Church of the Nazarene located at 2100 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Leesburg, Florida 34748 with Rev. Greg Brown officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service beginning at 9 AM. Burial to follow at 2 PM at Florida National Cemetery (Bushnell, Florida).
