A deputy conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a blue 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis, later identified as 59-year-old David Lee Brown, at the intersection of County Road 727 and Southeast 108th Road around 3:15 p.m. Thursday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The traffic stop was initiated after the deputy ran a check on the vehicle and learned that the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. Because Brown matched the description of the individual associated with this information, the deputy conducted a traffic stop, the report said.

The deputy then spoke to Brown and confirmed he was the owner. Brown also admitted that he was aware his license was suspended, the report said.

Another search revealed that Brown did not have a valid driver’s license. It was suspended as of October 2022. He also had one prior guilty conviction for driving while his license was suspended, the report said.

Brown was subsequently arrested for driving with a suspended/revoked license. He was also issued a citation for driving with a suspended license. He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $500 bond.
