Lake Minneola High School student arrested after involvement in three-way fight

A student at Lake Minneola High School was arrested for resisting arrest after a three-way fight between him and his peers.

The male student, whose name is being withheld because he is a juvenile, was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting an officer without violence and affray for an incident that occurred Tuesday morning at the school, located at 101 North Hancock Road, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 10:20 a.m. that day, a deputy got an alert from the school regarding a fight between three male students on the second floor of the main building near the rotunda. He arrived on scene and observed a teacher holding the juvenile in the doorway of a classroom while he tried to re-engage the other two students, the report said.

The other two students obeyed the commands from school officials. The juvenile was directed to walk to the front office, which he complied with. When reaching the foyer area, he was directed to go into the attendance office, the report said.

The juvenile then noticed the other two students sitting in the front lobby of the main office at which time he tried to re-engage in the fight with them. The deputy grabbed ahold of the juvenile’s wrist and placed him against the glass wall to restrain him in handcuffs. The report noted that the juvenile resisted the deputy’s efforts to secure him in handcuffs.

The juvenile was subsequently taken to an AP’s office and ordered to sit in a chair until the deputy was ready to talk about his involvement in the fight. However, the juvenile became argumentative and started loudly using profanity causing a disturbance in the attendance office, the report said.

The deputy directed the juvenile to calm down and stop cussing, but he did not comply. As a result, he was taken to the SRD office. He resisted and tried to pull away again while continually yelling down the hallway, the report said.

Once in the SRD office, the juvenile was searched but tried to pull away once more, yelling that the deputy could not touch him because he was “gay.” It took several minutes to get him under control until he stopped resisting, the report said.

After an investigation determined that the fight was mutual in nature, the juvenile was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail. Once there, he was turned over to detention deputies.
