A Leesburg man wanted for not paying child support was arrested after being caught driving without a valid license.
A deputy spotted a white Dodge Ram with an inoperable passenger side headlight traveling on Interstate 75 near mile marker 320 in Lake Panasoffkee around 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy then conducted a traffic stop and spoke to the driver, 42-year-old Josue Lugo. A check of his license revealed that it was suspended because he had an active warrant for child support delinquency out of Lake County. He also had three other active suspensions and had not had a valid license since before March 2022, the report said.
In addition, Lugo had a prior conviction for driving while his license was suspended. When asked if he was aware of his suspension, Lugo advised that he just paid $1,000 toward getting his license fixed, the report said.
Despite this, Lugo was arrested and charged with DWLSR (second subsequent offense). The New York native was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center with bond set at $1,000. He was also held on a $984 cash purge for the Lake County Sheriff’s Department for the child support warrant.
