William Irwin

William (Bill) Irwin, age 89, of Hilliard, OH passed away on October 17, 2023. He was born November 20, 1933, in Oil City, PA. He was the third son of Kermit and Mable Irwin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Rodney, of Wisconsin, Lawrence of FL, and Paul of KY.

Bill entered the U.S. Army in 1953 and served with distinction for over 20 years, retiring in 1973. His military career took him to many stateside and overseas assignments including: Korea, Vietnam, Hawaii, Germany, Alaska, and visits to Japan, Okinawa, France, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Canada. His career allowed him to attend schools of military importance, and also complete his Associate and Bachelor Degrees at Franklin University, in Columbus, Ohio, and his Master’s in Business from Central Michigan University, in Mt. Pleasant, MI.

After retiring from the Army, Bill joined the staff of OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) in Dublin, OH as Personnel Manager. After seven years there, he opened his printing business, with two locations (Columbus and Hilliard). He closed those stores eighteen years later to enjoy time traveling with his wife. They purchased a second home in FL and enjoyed being snowbirds. Eventually, they moved permanently loving activities and new friends.

Bill is a past, 25-year member of Hilliard Kiwanis Club and served with distinction in various club and division positions. He was also recognized at the International Level for his work as the Ohio District Secretary for the year 1995-1996.

Bill is a long-time member of the Hilliard United Methodist Church, having served on numerous committees and singing in the church choir. He enjoyed golf, bowling, and playing cards.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jean of 67 years, three daughters: Cynthia (Ray) Brewer, Valerie Irwin, and Pamela (Craig) Rohr. Grandchildren: Lauren (Kyle), Christopher (fiancé Tara), Billy (Azure-Dee), Paul (Whitney), and Sarah (Matt). Great Grandchildren: Tally, Vincent, Vada, Vegas, Henry and Nash.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his name to the Hilliard United Methodist Church or the Disabled American Veterans.

Services will be held on November 1, 2023, at 10 a.m., at Beyers Funeral Home at 1123 W. Main St., in Leesburg, FL. This will be followed by interment at 12:30pm at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave., Bushnell, FL.
