Gertrude McGlothlin
December 11, 1926 – October 18, 2023
Gertrude Ruth Yerke McGlothlin of Altoona, Florida completed her journey on this earth on October 18, 2023, at Adventist Waterman Hospital, Tavares, Florida.
Trudy, as she was known, was born into a large farming family in Gladwin, Michigan on December 11, 1926. Her parents, Gustave and Helena (Reimer) Yerke, were German immigrants from Prussia and in what is now known as Ukraine. She was married to Joseph L. McGlothlin, Jr., for over 62 years until his death in 2009. Over the years, they enjoyed living in Redford, Michigan, Coral Springs and Homosassa, Florida.
Trudy retired as a legal assistant in the City Attorney Office, Tamarac, Florida. She also worked many years at Encyclopedia Britannica Films in Detroit, Michigan.
She was a talented seamstress and quilter, creating numerous beautiful quilts for family, friends, and preschoolers at her church’s school.
Faith and church were important parts of her life. She served in many volunteer positions, including deaconess and church librarian. She was a member of Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church, Lecanto, Florida.
Trudy is survived by: her children Constance (William) Scott and Douglas McGlothlin; grandchildren Charles (Rebecca), Peter, John, David (Tricia), and Scott; great-grandchildren Blake, Matthew, Charlotte, Thomas, Henry, and Hughes; and sister Clara Schmidt.
A service will be held October 25, 2023, 12:30 PM at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida where Trudy will be buried with her husband.
