A Mount Dora man was arrested after police found plastic bags of methamphetamine mixed into his drink in his Dallas Cowboys cup.

Brent Allan Cole, 53, was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine (more than 200 grams) and tampering with evidence after his arrest Monday night, when he was pulled over by a Tavares police officer on U.S. Highway 441 for driving his headlights off.

While waiting for dispatch to run a background check on the people in the vehicle, the officer asked Cole if there were any illegal weapons or narcotics in the vehicle. He said there weren’t, but he gave permission to search the vehicle, according to an arrest report from the Tavares Police Department.

During the search, the officer found a stainless-steel tumbler sitting in the center console cup holder closest to the driver’s seat. The cup appeared to be full of ice and an unknown liquid. The officer took the lid off the cup and discovered two plastic baggies inside mixed in with the liquid and ice. The two baggies appeared to contain a hard crystalline substance, the report said.

Due to the cup being closest to Cole, he was detained for further investigation. He said someone must have put it there. However, the cup had a Dallas Cowboys logo on it and prior to detaining Cole, the officer asked him if he was a Cowboys fan, and they engaged in sports banter that implied he was, according to the report.

The baggies and the liquid in the cup tested positive for methamphetamine. The liquid and ice were taken out of the cup, placed into a plastic bag and weighed on a non-certified scale. The total combined weight of the methamphetamine was 657 grams, the report said.

Cole was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine (more than 200 grams) and tampering with evidence. He was transported to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $110,000.
