A 74-year-old Leesburg man was arrested after he reportedly punched another man during an argument at a local dog park.

Robert John Miller was charged with simple battery after the altercation, which happened around 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23, at an undisclosed dog park, according to the arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The victim told the responding police officer that Miller approached him upset because the victim’s dog was on the incorrect side of the park. The victim said Miller grabbed him by the front of his shirt and punched him twice in the chest, leaving a small red mark, the report said.

A witness said she saw Miller and the victim in a disagreement, during which Miller grabbed the victim by the shirt and punched him in the chest, according to the report.

The officer then spoke to Miller, who explained that on several occasions the victim had not followed the clearly marked rules. He admitted to grabbing the victim’s shirt during the altercation and acknowledged he shouldn’t have done so, the report said.

The New York native was transported to the Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
