A Leesburg woman was arrested after she reportedly slapped her husband over “mean” statements he allegedly made during a verbal argument.

Police responded to an incident involving 41-year-old Carly Rene Evans at an undisclosed residence in Leesburg at about 10:41 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The male victim told the officer he and Evans had been in an ongoing verbal and physical domestic dispute all day. He said during the argument, Evans slapped him numerous times in the face and torso, causing him to sustain fresh injuries to his right eye and left lower lip as well as a handprint on his back, the report said.

The victim also said Evans had been drinking alcohol and was physically aggressive toward him throughout the day, the report said. At some point, he grabbed Evans by the wrists and tried to restrain her from hitting him more, during which she sustained marks on her wrists.

The officer then spoke with Evans inside the residence, which was in extreme disarray. There were clothing items strewn across the residence and bedroom. All the curtains had apparently been ripped down from the windows. Evans said the curtains were normally down in that manner, but there were several sets that had damaged and bent curtain rods, according to the report.

Evans said the victim was verbally abusive to her and made numerous “mean” statements. When asked about the physical altercation, she could only explain that the incident became physical. She was unable to provide specifics details. Every time the officer tried to redirect his questioning, Evans would continue explaining how the victim was saying “mean” things, the report said.

Evans also claimed the red marks on her wrists and arms were from the victim battering her. However, she was unable to explain how the injuries occurred. She showed the officer a dark red bruise on her knee, which appeared 1-2 days old. She lastly showed red marks on the palms of her hands and claimed they were from the victim battering her. These were more consistent with the accounts and injuries of the victim, the report said.

The Pennsylvania native was ultimately determined to be the primary aggressor and was arrested for simple battery (domestic). She was transported to the Lake County Jail and was released on her own recognizance. Evans is responsible for appearing in court on Sept. 20.
