A Mount Dora woman who said she was “too busy” to stop after she struck and injured a woman with her vehicle in January has had her criminal charges dropped at the request of the victim.

Karin E. Sanfilippo, 70, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries in connection with the incident, which happened Jan. 30 along Sullivan Ranch Boulevard west of Round Lake Road in rural Lake County.

The victim told a Florida Highway Patrol trooper she was blowing leaves when she was struck by a car. She told the trooper that Sanfilippo told her she didn’t have time to sit there and wait for someone to show up, according to the arrest report.

When the trooper contacted Sanfilippo, she said she had been in the accident but left because she didn’t want to be late for an appointment. Sanfilippo was arrested and charged with the felony of leaving the scene of a crash involving injuries.

The injured woman eventually settled a personal injury claim and informed the prosecutors she was satisfied by the civil settlement and did not wish to have Sanfilippo prosecuted.
