Leesburg commissioners approve annexation of 60-acre subdivision

Leesburg city commissioners approved the annexation of 60 acres into the city Monday night. The property is located in a wooded area north of Jackson Road, east and west of Park Lane and west of Radio Road.

Commissioners also granted a zoning change from Lake County Agricultural to City of Leesburg Planned Unit Development (PUD) which will enable the property owner, Traderscove Corporation, to develop an 85-unit subdivision on the property. The subdivision will be called Silver Lake Woods.

The PUD will allow the developer to designate 52 lots with a minimum width of 50 feet and erect single family homes with a minimum of 1,500 square feet. Eighteen 60-foot lots will require that the homes erected on those lots be at least 1,600 square feet. The remaining 15 lots to be developed will have a 70-foot width and will have a minimum 1,800-square-foot requirement. All homes will have as a minimum two car attached garages.

No neighbors appeared before the board to oppose the annexation and zoning change. Heather Ryder who lives across from the development submitted a written objection to the project. She indicated that she objected to the increased noise and excessive traffic that the development would bring to the rural neighborhood as well as the loss of wildlife habitat . The planning commission held a public hearing on May 18 and recommended approval by a 5-2 vote. Several neighboring property owners were present at that meeting and raised concerns about the increased traffic in the area and the fact that there are two subdivisions near the subject property. Concerns regarding loss of wildlife habitat were also raised.

The all five commissioners voted to approve the development.
