A Tavares man with a long criminal rap sheet was arrested Sunday evening after he was caught on a property in Leesburg where he was previously given a trespass warning.

Roy Eugene Wilson, 30, was charged with trespass after warning. Jail records show he’s been arrested a dozen times since 2020 on a variety of drug, theft, and other charges.

Officers found Wilson in the woods near the Leesburg Square Plaza, 2241 Citrus Blvd. They were responding to a call about a retail theft at the plaza, and the caller told the officers that the suspect – later identified as Wilson – ran into a wooded area at 2215 Citrus Blvd., according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

Officers searched the area and were initially unable to locate Wilson, but they eventually found him hanging out in the woods on private property.  There was a trespass authorization letter signed by the property owner, who asked that anyone found on the property not conducting official business be issued a trespass warning, the report said.

Before issuing the warning to Wilson, officers were notified he was previously trespassed from the property. The Ohio native was arrested and taken to the Lake County Jail, where bond was set at $1,000.
