A Leesburg man was arrested for drunk driving after showing up intoxicated at the Leesburg Police Department to report an altercation he had with his husband.
An officer was standing outside the Leesburg Police Department at about 1:03 a.m. Friday when a dark Toyota sedan driven by 46-year-old Leyser Raul Rengifo-Rebolledo entered the parking lot, according to an arrest report. He appeared to be unable to park within a designated spot.
Rengifo-Rebolledo exited the vehicle and walked towards the front door of the department, the report said. The officer spoke to Rengifo-Rebolledo, who advised he was intoxicated and had been in an altercation with his husband at his residence. He decided to leave the property and drive to the department to report the disturbance.
While speaking to Rengifo-Rebolledo, the officer observed him to have slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath. He was also holding the keys to the sedan in his right hand as he spoke. When asked how much he had to drink, Rengifo- Rebolledo replied two to three “half-cups” of vodka. He then agreed to perform field sobriety exercises, the report said.
Due to Rengifo-Rebolledo’s performance during the exercises, the officer concluded he was driving under the influence. Breath tests resulted in 0.220g/210L, 0.242g/210L and 0.216g/210L, the report said.
As a result, the Colombian native was placed under arrest and charged with DUI. He was transported to the Lake County Jail with bond set at $1,000.
