1930 – 2023

Loran K. Yarger, of Leesburg, FL, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 in his home, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Larry was born in Toledo, OH. He graduated from Whitmer High School, Toledo, OH, where he was a phenomenal athlete, lettering in football, baseball and basketball. He also won numerous trophies for bowling and fishing. Larry was a veteran of the United States Army.

Larry retired as the Transportation Supervisor from Washington Local Public Schools career, where he spent his entire career. He had the unimaginable task of planning bus routes, long before computers simplified that process.

Larry spent his summers at his lake home on Farwell Lake in Michigan, where he and his family liked to golf, boat, fish and swim. Larry was an avid golfer, and had even been known to take an ice pick with him to tee up his ball in the snow while he lived in Ohio.

Larry was known for his kindness, sense of humor and compassion. Together, he and his wife Betsy took in 11 foster children to nurture and care for. Larry was also known to rescue injured animals or stop to help accident victims. His spirit lives on in the love he shared and the countless lives he touched.

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Gary) Capone; granddaughter, Emily of Waynesboro, VA; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Yarger of Fairfield Glade, TN, Sandy (Clair) Brown of Delta, OH, Barb Riemenschneider of Pahrump, NV; brother-in-law, Bob (Fran) Riemenschneider of Sandy, UT and many nieces and nephews and their families. Larry was preceded in death by Betsy, his wife of fifty-five years; his parents, Clarence and Beatrice Yarger; sister, Dona (John) Koser; brothers, Robin Yarger and Kent Yarger, and brothers-in-law, Paul Riemenschneider and Richard McCullough.

The family would also like to thank Kerry Morris and her family for being amazing caregivers to both Larry and Betsy.

Larry will be interred in Toledo, OH at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Boys Town, a charity Larry supported. Rest peacefully, sweet man.
