B. Marvin Edward Nickens
May 28, 1963 – July 20, 2023

Born to Eugene Thomas Nickens and Rosa Lee Samons on May 28, 1963. He was educated in the DC public school system and graduated from Cardozo Senior High School in 1981. He immediately joined the Marine Corp. He married Gwen Harris in 1983. They had two beautiful daughters together Michelle and Monique who were his pride and joy. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp in 1989. He worked for the US Printing Department from 1993 to 2005.

In 2011 Marvin had the joy of becoming a first-time grandfather to his grandson Ezekyul, with his adorable grandchildren Azalya, James, and Jamari. Marvin and Adrienne were introduced by her brother-in-law Duke Harris in May 2013. It was love at first sight and they both knew that they wanted to share their lives together. They immediately started planning their wedding for November 16, 2014. Marvin inherited 4 beautiful daughters Andrea, Ebony, Jaslyn, and Tamari. He became a proud grandfather again to Riley in 2015. They moved from Fredericksburg Virginia to Davenport Florida in 2015. He became a happy grandfather again in 2016 to Marley and Khloe in 2021.

Marvin and Adrienne enjoyed many fun filled vacations, their children, and grandchildren as well. They experienced love that many saw displayed through matching outfits, inside jokes, an open home to all and a deep affection for one another. Family became the central focus for Marvin and Adrienne, and they used their love to give love to others. Now residing in Fruitland Park, Marvin unfortunately, became severely ill. With the support of his wife, Adrienne, the journey in the end has been fulfilled with God’s grace.

Marvin loved and cherished all his family. He helped to organize the family reunions. He loved being a host for his family and friends. Marvin was an expert at many things. He would often show off his mastery grilling skills to cook up a feast. Time spent with Marvin wasn’t complete unless he pulled out the cards so he could holler “Next!!!” when he won or lost at bid whist. He used that same sportsman ship while playing chess. Cheering for the Washington Redskins, going fishing, playing poker, and traveling with family were pastimes that he enjoyed immensely. He loved to laugh and make others laugh with him. Marvin was a very loyal person. He was compassionate and empathetic; however, he was pragmatic when necessary. He was active in his group sessions helping his fellow marines navigate the landmines of being home mentally and physically. Marvin will always be loved, cherished, and remembered.

Marvin was preceded in death by his Grandmother Willie Mae Samons, father Eugene Thomas Nickens, his mother Rosa Lee Samons, his sisters Charlene Nickens Littleford (Cookie), Paulette Francis, and Brother-in-law Newton Littleford.
