A Leesburg man reportedly tried to cheat on a breath test during his arrest for drunk driving early Sunday.

Anthony Lorenzo Nostramo, 20, was pulled over around 12:42 a.m. Sunday after a Leesburg police officer observed him driving 60 mph in a 45-mph zone on U.S. Highway 441. Nostramo’s right two wheels were also completely in the bicycle lane for several hundred feet, according to the department’s arrest report.

The officer conducted a traffic stop and the vehicle pulled into College Drive. The officer noticed Nostramo’s eyes were bloodshot and watery, and he had alcohol on his breath when he spoke. Several beer cans were in the center console, the report said.

Nostramo failed a series of field sobriety exercises and was taken to the police station for breath tests. However, he tried to beat the breathalyzer by breathing out of nose and not his mouth. He made several attempts, all of which were unsuccessful, and then claimed to not know how to breathe out of his mouth, according to the report.

Due to Nostramo’s passive refusal to properly complete the test, it was canceled. He was subsequently charged with DUI and taken to the Lake County Jail, where he was released after posting $1,000 bond.
