Leesburg to seek grant for washers to clean firemen’s protective gear

Leesburg commissioners this past week unanimously passed a resolution to apply for a grant to obtain two special washer-extractor machines for the fire department.

The grant, if accepted by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s office, would pay 75 percent of the cost of two 30-pound washer-extractor machines which are designed to clean personal protective equipment. The grant would provide $13,500 of the $18,000 cost with the rest being provided by the city. These machines will meet the National Fire Protection Association’s requirement for cleaning and decontamination of protective gear.
